Few miles away from Corfu, Sivota and Igoumenitsa the islands Paxos and Antipaxos are found. Popular for its beautiful beaches and green waters, Paxos has many tourists who have their basis in Gaios city which apart from the capital of the island is also its main port. In Gaios you will find many shops and organized accommodation options. From there you can begin your excursions to the surrounding beaches. The best way to visit them, including the caves spread all over Paxos, is to have your private boat or rent a small one of the hundreds available on the island. Apart from Gaios, beautiful and organized village with a charming canal is Logos as well as the touristic Lakka also offering various accommodation options.

Boats and water taxis to Antipaxos depart daily from Gaios. It is definitely worth visiting this small island if you want to swim in green waters and enjoy the white sands of Vrikas and Batumi beaches. Paxos beaches are less impressive but equally beautiful and more organized with bars and sun loungers. Charali, Ozias, Monodentri, Marmari, Kanoni, and Kali Lagkada are all with small pebbles and in most cases accessible by road. You can reach Paxos from Igoumenitsa and Corfu ports. If you travel with your private boat note that the distance from the nearest coast of Epirus is just 8 miles.

How to get there

From Athens

Travelling by car or bus and by boat

To reach the island of Paxoi, you can either drive or take the Intercity Bus (KTEL Bus of Thesprotia) via the National Highway to Patra. When you reach the town of Rio, cross the bridge to Antirio and follow the signs to Igoumenitsa. At the port of Igoumenitsa you can take the ferry-boat or a sea-taxi to get across to the port of Gaios (2 hours trip on the ferry-boat).

From Thessaloniki

Travelling by car or bus and by boat

To reach the island of Paxoi from Thessaloniki, you can either drive via Egnatia Highway or take the Intercity Bus (KTEL Bus of Thesprotia) to Igoumenitsa. At the port of Igoumenitsa take the ferry-boat or a sea-taxi to get across to the port of Gaios (2 hours trip on the ferry-boat).

Connections with other ports

The island of Paxoi is connected by boat with the islands of Corfu and Antipaxoi, as well as with the port of Igoumenitsa.

Transfer within Paxoi

To move around the island you can use your own car or motorcycle (the furthest distance is 13 km). During summer months ferry-boats depart every half hour for the island of Antipaxoi. You can also tour around the whole island on the boat and stop for a dive into any of the two bays you like.
