Holidays in Poros island

The peaceful island of Poros belongs to the Saronic Gulf complex. In fact, these are two islands: Sfairia (where the city is built) and Kalavria. Poros lacks the cosmopolitan character of Hydra and Spetses. It has, however, an unpretentious charm that will seduce you!

In the tiny island's capital, the neoclassical buildings, the captains’ mansions, the whitewashed houses with bougainvillea, the narrow cobbled streets and the harbor with the boats coming and going from Galata make a scene that will take you to bygone times! During your walk through the alleys of the city, you will find stylishly art shops, taverns and charming cafés. Do not forget to visit the picturesque square next to the church of Saint George and the old aqueduct. The heart of the city beats in the port which is ideal for long romantic walks. On Poros beach, there are two picturesque squares: Korizi square, where the Archaeological Museum stands and Karamanou (or Hall) Square, with its impressive marble fountain. Trademark of this beautiful coastal city is the historical clock, which dominates the highest peak of the hill, offering stunning views of the canal that separates Poros from the opposite Peloponnesian coast. From there, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a breathtaking sunset!

Major attractions in the island of Poros are the famous Villa Galini, the City Hall, Chatzopouleios Public Library; home to the Museum "Shells and Sea", the Exhibition and Cultural Events Hall, the ruins of the temple of Poseidon, Zoodochos Pigi Monastery and the desert islet Bourtzi with its small castle.

Poros is an ideal destination for those who love mountain biking or hiking explorations, as it has beautiful trails, crossing beautiful, green slopes.

During your stay on the island, be sure to cross by boat, the channel which separates Poros from Galatas and visit the magnificent Lemon Grove. It is also worth visiting the ruins of ancient Troezen and the famous Diavologefyro; the verdant ravine with plane trees. In the gorge runs a small river, creating ponds, in a setting that seems to have sprung from children's fairy tale!

In "Saronic Gulf’s Vosporos", with the overwhelming feeling of peace and tranquility, where the charm of past times reigns, time seems to have stopped...

Beaches

Poros may not be famous for its beaches, but has many beautiful and romantic coves, in some of which pine trees reach the shore.

Within walking distance from the city, there is Kanali beach ideal for families with children because of the shallow waters. Only a few kilometers northeast of the capital, there is the extensive sandy Askeli beach. A little further east, down the hill where the famous Zoodochos Pigi monastery stands, unfolds the quiet Monastery beach, which is embraced by lush green.

On the other side of Poros, there are the beautiful beaches of Mikro and Megalo Neorio. Next to Neorio, there is the atmospheric beach of the Russian Naval Base, where a preserved monument dominates, creating a theatrical scenery! Opposite to the beach, there is Daskalio islet, with its picturesque small church. A bit further, Gerolimenas beach is ideal for those who love solitude. Do not forget to visit the magnificent Limanaki tis Agapis (Love Bay), with its turquoise waters and green surroundings.

On the north coast of the island the quiet Vagionia beach unfolds. If you love exploring, do not forget to take along with you your sea mask. An alternative option is the beach of Galata, just across Poros.
