Holidays in Kythnos island

The unpretentiously beautiful island of Kythnos or Thermià dominates the Cyclades Complex, keeping up to date a past times pure aura!

Capital is Chora or Messaria. The white houses with the colorful doors and windows and the flowery gardens; the cobbled, labyrinthine streets; the “stegadia”, the arches, the small squares, the traditional windmills and the picturesque chapels compose a beautiful residential complex! It is worth browsing in the narrow streets and enjoying a coffee or food in the tiny shops of the settlement.

Chora’s port is the settlement of Loutra. This is the most touristic part of Kythnos; famous for its hot mineral springs (Agion Panton and Kakavos). In this seaside village, except for the Hydrotherapy Spa Center, you will find beautiful taverns where you can enjoy your food by the sea. If you love adventure, in Loutra you can find a diving center; caves, reefs, corals and shipwrecks are just some of the "secrets" of this island’s sea bottom, waiting to be discovered!

Continue your trek in Kythnos, with a visit to the ruins of the Castle of Oria or Katakefalou, which dominate the site of the medieval capital of the island (in the wider region of Loutra), carrying memories of the distant past! Browse among the remnants of the walls, the dilapidated houses and the old churches and admire the charm of the unspoiled nature!

The second largest settlement of Kythnos is serene Dryopida, which is invisible from the sea; built to hug the hills. The white houses with gardens full of flowers and the bright red roofs compose a unique residential complex which differs from the traditional style of the Cycladic architecture. Walk into the narrow streets and spend some time in the old churches and the beautiful squares in this picturesque village. Dryopida’s major attractions are the War Memorial, the Folklore Museum as well as the Ecclesiastical and Byzantine Museum. Near the village, there is Katafiki Cave with an amazing decor.

Dryopida’s port is Merihas. There, you will find a café/bar, pastry shops and taverns. Do not leave the island without enjoying the sunset from the Cape Marco, definately among the most beautiful of the Cyclades!

In the untouched and pristine island of Kythnos, the wild beauty of the barren soil blends masterfully with the dazzling white of the houses and the deep blue of the sea, creating a place with successive images’ alternations which captivate the eye and intrigue the senses...
